About Us

Our journey began 16 years ago when we met at a YFC convention in beautiful Colorado Springs. We were both working with youth through Campus LIfe, Mindy in Ft Wayne and Phil in Northern Indiana. After a lot of "non commital" outings we took the plunge- started dating (Phil argues those outings really were dates since he paid for them) got engaged and were newly weds 7 months later. For three years we worked together with High School students in Indiana leading CL clubs and service trips to inner city DC, the hills of Kentucky and Nicaragua.
In 2003 we moved to California to help start The Quest a church in Novato and after six years verntured out on our own with Be2Live.
Daily we are GRATEFUL that God allows us to do what we love and share it with others!

traveling, sports, eating world cuisines and sunshine, the beach, anything outdoors and above all our two crazy kiddos and the joy and chaos they bring to life... these are some of our favorite things!

  local, Mexico and beyond

We are convinced that when we give to others we receive more in return. Although this cant be our motivation for service- it does create an environment of growth in ourselves. That is why B2L focuses on service with others offering various opportunities locally, in Mexico and coming in 2014- beyond!

The fall of 2005 we were put in contact with a beautiful orphanage in La Mision, Mexico, Door of Faith Orphanage. An orphanage isnt always beautiful but the love and health of this giant family drew us in. We also met an inspiring young couple with a dream and lots of faith which began our relationship with- what was to become- Open Arms Daycare in La Mision.  A lovely little village on the coast of baja with two amazing ministries- one caring for orphans and the abandoned, the other doing justice in keeping families together to prevent child abandonment in Baja.  The last six years we have led groups to this tiny town, partnering with these two organziations supporting their work and the community. Both organizations have grown and are doing amazing work. We have deep respect for both and look forward to years of continued partnerships with them. At the same time we look forward to new adventures. In 2012 we visited three more orphanages and have identified Casa de Paz as the next one we will begin developing a long term partnership with.

We know a week away serving with others is a powerful experience. It is our hope that it is not just a week but a catalyst for living more God and others focused back at home. We encourage you to find places locally to serve and if you are not sure where to start then join us on our bay area opportunities.

Looking ahead- the student leadership academy has been working hard at understanding and educating others regarding the issues of modern day slavery. We hate the fact that more people today, then any other time in history, are enslaved. In keeping with the mission of Be2Live and fullfilling the work of the SLA we are working to identify an organization to partner with that is working specifically on the prevention side of the slavery issue. The globe is wide open- we are narrowing it down- so stay tuned to see where 2014 will take us!

It is our hope that as we serve together, we will experience God more personally and understand that we were all created to love and serve others by living a life on mission in community, serving others and in relationship with God.  Once you discover who God has created you to be you will truly live.

  PASSAGE
Over seven years ago Stuart Miller and I began a discussion about the importance of boys understanding what it means to be a Godly man.  We realized that in our Western culture there were few significant rights of passage- or significant opportunities in a boy’s life that taught him what it means to be a man.  Thus, we began Passage.  Designed for 8th grade and/or 13 year old boys we have successfully led groups of young men on a four week journey that culminates with a weekend adventure. It is our hope that through this experience both boys, fathers and men will have conversations about what it means to be a man that God desires for us to be. The Passage experience is a catalyst for these ongoing conversations. Contact Phil for more information on Passage for your group.
